Signs You Need to Replace Your Windshield
Just because you notice a small chip or a crack on your windshield, that doesn’t automatically mean you have to get a new one. You could very likely be fine with getting it repaired. However, there are a couple of questions you’ll need to ask yourself when determining whether or not to call someone for windshield replacement.
How Big is the Crack or Chip?
The size of the damage will go a long way toward determining whether or not a replacement is needed. The rule of thumb is to use a dollar bill to measure the chip or crack. If the bill covers the damage completely, then you can get the windshield repaired. If it doesn’t the windshield will need to be replaced.
Where is the Location of the Damage?
This will be as important as the size. If you can see the damage while you’re driving, you’ll need a replacement. It doesn’t matter how large or small the crack or chip may be. If it’s in your field of vision, that will be too much of a distraction.
You’ll also likely need a replacement if the damage is in a corner of the glass. The reason is that causes instability in the windshield, making it very susceptible to suddenly breaking or shattering.
